William Buck cements its position as leading tax advisor to the middle market

By William Buck

Strengthening its reputation as the region’s leading middle-market tax specialist with three strategic new senior appointments, William Buck is uniquely positioned to support both Australia’s and New Zealand’s growing SME businesses.

As the drivers of both economies, accounting for 18% of net tax and 23% of total income in Australia alone, middle market businesses face an increasingly complex tax system and require more from their tax advisors than ever before.

William Buck has made three strategic new senior appointments to further expand its specialist tax capabilities. Building on the firm’s 125-year history of supporting the middle market, William Buck welcomes Tax Directors, Jonathan Doy and Nick Gangemi, and Senior Manager Glen Chew to its NSW team.

Accomplished Tax Advisors, Jonathan and Glen bring extensive knowledge in GST and property transactions, among other areas. As a recognised tax academic and lawyer, Nick brings a unique skillset as an expert technician to support the complex needs of the firm’s clients in areas including tax controversy, trusts and state taxes.

Greg Travers, William Buck’s Head of Tax said the appointments will strengthen the firm’s existing tax capability.

“We’ve developed a reputation as experts in tax as a result of our focus on education and technical expertise. The appointment of Jonathan, Nick and Glen brings further depth to our Tax team, allowing us to meet the growing needs of our clients. Jonathan and the team bring their technical expertise to life in a practical and down-to-earth manner which suits the middle-market perfectly.”

For Jonathan, the move to William Buck is a natural consequence of a long-held professional respect and admiration.

“I’ve been a keen observer of William Buck for some time. Over the years, we’ve worked on number of transactions and engagements together, and of course I’ve been aware of their prolific contribution to the SME sector through education and advocacy. I’m excited to bring our skills to this respected team.”

The appointments represent a significant step in the firm’s strategic goal of being able to support the middle market through a complete suite of quality professional services.

William Buck’s Tax Services team includes specialists in areas including private clients, owner- managed businesses, tax disputes, tax governance, international tax, transfer pricing, GST and the R&D Tax Incentive.
