Charlie Woodhouse’s graduate story

By William Buck

What attracted you to join the William Buck Graduate Program?

I was initially drawn to words of culture and great environment, which were driven by William Buck when I first came across the job opening. Having a great culture goes a long way to enjoying your job and that is definitely one of the main reasons why I applied in the first place. WB also focuses a large deal on developing their graduates and I was really eager to learn coming in to a new role, so this also stood out.

What did you get out of the program?

I have learnt a tremendous amount since my first day of walking in the office, and this was a result of the entire team putting in effort to support each other and almost go from strength to strength. The team prepares a path for you to develop yourself, and having goals to chase goes a long way in enjoying and learning at the same time.

How were you supported through the program?

I was supported with catch ups with managers every so often, weekly check ins to see if my workflow was alright, as well as a development plan which allowed me to reflect and think about better ways to do things. My team also has training workshops every month which help develop our skills and confident. Everyone was always available to help whenever you needed it which is also great.

How do you see your career progressing with William Buck?

Within my team there is quite a structure way of progressing in terms of title and promotions, so this always provides something to aim for. However, I think my career progression will mainly be around learning more and taking on more responsibility. There is also things to learn, so that phase will never stop, however, getting exposed to new scenarios and situations will be the most beneficial way of learning.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

This is always a hard question. I think in 5 years I will have a clearer picture forward in my own head first and foremost. But hopefully I will have gained a large amount of knowledge over the years and will have the ability to have in depth conversations with partners and others around potential ideas.

What’s the best thing about working at William Buck?

The best thing is the culture within the company and team. Everyone is super friendly and will always lend a helping hand. I think this is one of the main things that drives success at a company. I think you will get better results if everyone enjoys what they do.
