Recruiters will be looking at a lot of cover letters and resumes during their busy grad recruitment campaigns. Use a distinctive style on your cover letter. Microsoft Word has lots of templates you can use to design a cover letter. Showing that you’ve taken the time to make your application visually appealing is a plus.

Explain the reason why you have chosen to apply to William Buck. Be sure to point out what stands out to you about the firm as an employer. What about you aligns with the values and business of the firm? Do you align with the values of the firm? Do you identify with the vision?

Use the information available to you through the job advertisement, position description and website to ensure you have addressed the selection criteria. Tailor the content of your cover letter to ensure it is concise, readable and relevant. As a rule, keep your cover letter to one page only.

Ensure your spelling and grammar are impeccable. Use the correct technical terms where appropriate but avoid the excessive use of jargon and clichés. Be consistent. For example, if you capitalise a job title once, capitalise it throughout the whole document.
